        Core Privacy Promise: Subscription Guardian is built on local-first principles. We do not operate remote tracking servers, sell your data, or collect telemetry. All tracked subscriptions and alert settings remain on your local device.
      

1. Information We Store Locally

All data processed by Subscription Guardian is stored exclusively in your browser via chrome.storage.local. This data includes:

Subscription Records: Service name, plan price, currency, billing cycle, renewal date, and your cancellation/renewal intent.
User Preferences: Notification reminder presets and display settings.
Locally Parsed Candidates: Subscription details extracted from user-initiated receipt parsing.

This data never leaves your personal browser profile unless you explicitly export it as a CSV file to your local computer.

2. What We Never Collect

❌ No bank account credentials or credit card numbers.
❌ No browsing history or web traffic tracking.
❌ No advertising identifiers, telemetry, or analytics trackers.
❌ No cloud account creation or third-party profiling.

3. Google User Data & Optional Gmail Access

Subscription Guardian offers an optional, user-initiated feature allowing you to scan your Gmail inbox for subscription renewal receipts and trial confirmations:

Google API Scopes: When activated by the user, the extension requests read-only access (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly).
Local Processing Only: Email headers and snippets matching renewal queries are parsed entirely in-memory inside your local browser.
No Email Storage: Raw email messages, bodies, or full message histories are never saved to disk and never transmitted to any external server. Only the final extracted subscription name and price are displayed for your review.
Limited Use Disclosure: Subscription Guardian's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. Browser Permissions

Permission	Purpose
`storage`	Save your subscription list and reminder settings locally in `chrome.storage.local`.
`alarms`	Wake the background script at scheduled intervals to check upcoming renewal dates.
`notifications`	Display desktop notifications alerting you before a free trial ends or a renewal charge occurs.
`activeTab` / `scripting`	Detect subscription buttons and pricing cards when clicked by the user on signup pages.
`identity`	Facilitate optional, user-initiated OAuth authentication for local Gmail receipt scanning.

5. Data Deletion & Control

You have full ownership of your data at all times:

You can edit or delete any tracked subscription directly inside the extension popup or dashboard at any time.
Uninstalling the extension immediately purges all stored data from your browser.

6. Open Source Transparency

Subscription Guardian is open source. You can audit our entire source code, build scripts, and permissions directly on our GitHub Repository.
